Aroostook County Family Photography FAQs

How often should I take family photos?

A lot of our clients book their next year’s session at the end of their first session. Scheduling a lifestyle family session annually may be difficult for some as life can often get in the way. Choosing to schedule your session close to a family event or the holidays is a great way to commemorate that special time. When you make your session a tradition, you have the mile markers of life in print.

Where does my family photo session take place? Do you have a studio?

Our preference is for the sessions take place either outdoors at one of our preferred locations or at our studio. For studio sessions, we have a beautiful portrait studio space in our home. Let us know if you want a more formal studio portrait session or if you prefer one of our outdoor locations. If you have a special place of your own in mind we are obviously open to that as well.

What do I wear to my family photo session?

Rowena is more than happy to consult with you and your outfit choice(s). Her artist’s eye helps with the crafting of your portraits. We suggest everyone wears similarly styled outfits. Not necessarily the exact same shirt or dress, but more the overall style. If everyone has a casual look or everyone has a formal look the images we capture will be more balanced. It is not necessary for everyone to wear the same color, however, harmonious colors/color palettes photograph best for groups.

What if I am not photogenic?

You are not alone in this belief. It is amazing how many clients tell us this before their session, and it is never true! This belief often comes from past photography sessions where the photographer took competent technical photographs, but didn’t understand the creative side. We love coaching our clients through their session. We used to hate posing clients until we learned the true art of posing. It is about the experience, the moment. We set the stage by positioning your arms, face and body, but your expressions are natural reactions. We have a lot of tricks up our sleeves to make you look fabulous! When let go and embrace our CREATIVE experience you forget that you thought you were not photogenic. You’ll look more beautiful than you thought was possible.

What props should I bring to my session?

Props are a great way to personalize and showcase your lifestyle, but they are not necessary.

Can I keep the images from my session private?

Of course you can! While we post a lot of our sessions to social media and our blog we always honor our clients wishes. If you would prefer to keep your images private, you may indicate so when booking your session. For clients who choose to decline releasing their photos on our blog, we absolutely respect your decision. When we send you your gallery link we will include a password so only the people you want will have access to it.
